4. The 3-oxazoline 5 or 6 is synthesized by the reaction of 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (3) with NH3(or15NH3) in methanol at room temperature. When the reaction is completed the methanol is removed in vacuo, and the product is obtained as a colorless oil.
