Introduction. Democracy and Judicial Governance in Europe

Abstract

AbstractThis chapter introduces the topic of judicial governance, connecting it to democratic quality. It defines and explains the main models of judicial governance in Europe, and shows that countries based on the judicial council model exhibit on average democracies of less quality, at least when compared with countries based on the courts service model.
