Abstract
Objective: Our aim is to see whether there is a difference in postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, postoperative healing period, and recurrence of the disease between Limberg flap (LF) and Karydakis flap (KF) surgeries in patients with pilonidal sinus disease (PSD).
Methods: Our research includes a comparison of two patient groups who had PSD surgery performed by a single physician between March 2016 and October 2020. Patients in Group 1 were undergoing LF, whereas those in Group 2 were undergoing KF.
Results: There were 103 patients in Group 1 and 64 patients in Group 2. The mean age, duration of surgery and hospitalization were shorter in Group 2 (p=0.019, p=0.0001, p=0.0001, respectively). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the remaining variables.
Conclusion: It has been understood that there is no difference in terms of quality of life, recurrence and complications in both surgical methods that we applied in the surgical treatment of PSD. However, the fact that KF operations can be completed in a shorter time and patients can be discharged earlier makes this group one step ahead.
