Critical Load of Columns of Varying Cross Section

Abstract

Abstract A method is developed for determining the critical load of a pin-ended long column of n different cross sections and lengths. For n less than 5, the method results in a simple equation for the critical load. Specific examples for columns of 2, 3, and 4 sections are given, and experimental data are presented for comparison.
