Abstract
A new method is proposed to predict the life of pressure components operating within the creep range. The method is based on exhaustion of the internal energy in the critical zones of the material. It is shown that the proposed method alleviates some of the major shortcomings of the existing methods yet it is simple enough to be readily applicable to industrial cases. Its predictions compared with a set of experimental data shows that the proposed approach may be used to predict the creep life with an accuracy of better than 2%.
