Abstract
Abstract
A theory is developed for the transverse impact of spheres on elastic beams which incorporates a dynamic plastic force-indentation law and linear elastic boundary conditions. A method is devised to account for the effect of an infinite number of bending modes. The influence of various force-indentation relations on the calculated stress history is discussed and a comparison with an experimental stress curve is provided.
