Abstract

The development of flow in a parallel-plate channel is determined by solving the two-dimensional, elliptic equations of motion for laminar flow. Cases involving blowing, suction, and no mass transfer through the walls are considered, but attention is focused on the wall suction case. It is shown that for strong suction, the hydrodynamically developed solutions for the velocity profile published previously are normally not attained or approached by the developing flow. The results of an experimental investigation are also reported for the wall suction problem, and it is confirmed that hydrodynamically developed velocity profiles are not attained for the range of wall-suction Reynolds numbers tested.
