Abstract
A method of calculating the two-dimensional laminar boundary layer is presented following closely the approximate solution of Pohlhausen. The boundary layer is divided into two regions, each described by third-order polynomials. By assuming that the point of intersection of the two curves is linearly related to the displacement thickness, the boundary layers are reduced to a one-parameter family. The method of solution thus becomes identical with the Pohlhausen method using the reevaluated auxiliary functions presented here. Comparison with some exact solutions clearly shows the improvement effected by the present technique.
