Abstract

The results of some experiments on turbulence management using combinations of honeycombs of a different lengths and coarse and fine screens, carried out in highly nonuniform and turbulent flows generated in a 127-mm plexiglas pipe by an upstream fan, are presented. The performance of the devices as single manipulators and in combination is evaluated through hot-wire measurements of the mean and rms values of the longitudinal velocities over the pipe cross section. The results show that relatively short honeycombs, preceded by a coarse screen and followed by one or more fine screens, can be used for effective management of such flows.
