Abstract
An investigation of unsymmetrical deformation effects in hot strip rolling on single-roll drive mills is performed analytically. The model developed permits prediction of the rolling load, torque, and exit strip curvature as a function of mill geometry and strip reduction, through a formulation of the appropriate equilibrium equations and a realistic approximate yield criterion. Inclusion of the unsymmetric effects is achieved by assuming a reasonable distribution for the pressure difference between the rolls. Numerical results for rolling load, rolling torque, and strip curvature are presented and compared with earlier theories, with conclusions drawn relative to the importance of the effects of the nonsymmetry of the deformation state.
