The Importance of Free-Hand Sketching in Conceptual Design: Automatic Sketch Input

Abstract

Abstract Free-hand drawing (sketching) is important in the conceptual design stage. Current CAD tools are not well suited to sketching. This statement is supported by an examination of free-hand drawing, a brief overview of some commercially available drawing packages and a discussion of other authors’ work in this area. Finally we present objectives for automatic sketch input and their partial realisation in our drawing system called Easel.
