Adjustable Mechanisms for Exact Path Generation

Abstract

The generalized design equations for a path generating cam-link mechanism are developed. A cam-link provides a continually adjustable link that provides accuracy over a range of motion not available with coventional linkages. The design equations are used with an optimization scheme to satisfy a merit function based on cam pressure angle and drift angle. Examples are included that illustrate the capabilities of this synthesis technique.
