Abstract
Capacity assessment of corrosion defects in pipelines is a challenge for the pipeline industry, and has resulted in several methods and codes in the recent years. DNV issued in 1999 a recommended practice for the assessment of corroded pipelines, DNV-RP-F101 [1], which was developed in cooperation with the industry. This RP differs from other methods as the RP includes calibrated safety factors for various safety levels, and includes the effect of the inspection quality. The RP has been widely accepted, and the RP is under revision in 2004 based on experience from the first five years of use. This paper presents the background for the DNV-RP-F101, the safety philosophy, a presentation of the improvements in the latest revision, and a comparison with other codes.
