Abstract

The NASA-sponsored General Electric Energy Efficient Engine (E3) Program has progressed through development tests of all major components. Results of these component tests are summarized. Major technical features of each of the components are described and test results are compared with design goals. Major emphasis is placed on the high pressure compressor, which is designed for a 23:1 pressure ratio. This advanced technology compressor design completed a series of component tests leading to a configuration which is expected to meet all major objectives of the program. The planned Core Engine and Integrated Core/Low Spool (ICLS) tests are described and expected benefits of these system tests are discussed. Integrated system tests of the components are expected to demonstrate fuel saving benefits which exceed the goals of the NASA E3 Program.
