Abstract
The dynamic stresses at the boundary of a cavity filled with an inviscid compressible fluid during the passage of a plane dilatational wave train are determined in this paper. The steady-state response or admittance function is obtained for the plane-strain case. It is found that, at critical wave numbers, the intensity of the boundary stresses is significantly higher than that predicted under static loading. It is shown that these high intensities are due to resonance in the fluid and that the resonance conditions can be predicted once the properties of the medium and the fluid are known.
