Abstract
The industrial sector releases many hazardous chemicals that harm the environment we live in and impact adverse consequences on the organisms within that ecosystem. As many organic chemicals are polluting the environment, oxidative enzymes emerge as a novel, clean and sustainable solution. Peroxidase is a well-known enzyme that can oxidize a wide array of substrates using hydrogen peroxide. Immobilization technology, which improved stability and activity in addition to the advantage of reusability, efficiently accelerates the removal of environmental pollutants. Indeed, the immobilized peroxidase was proven to be useful in bioremediation. This review highlights the current strategies of immobilization of enzymes together with their applications in the removal of mainstream environmental pollutants with an emphasis on peroxidase enzyme.
