Abstract
The hydraulic assessment of catchwaters and water transfer aqueducts could sometimes be overlooked by practitioners undertaking flood estimation analyses. This paper discusses assessing the hydraulic capacity of some typical channel and conduit configurations, highlighting the possible modelling flaws and related risks. In addition, the paper provides a critical analysis of the standard practice for catchment delineation as opposed to an approach considering the effect of any man-made terrain features, such as roads and boundary walls that would provide safer and more economical engineering solutions.
