Abstract

This paper describes an electromechanical road pavement energy harvest system, called Waynergy Vehicles, which has been developed in Portugal by the Waydip Company in collaboration with the Pavement Mechanics Laboratory of the University of Coimbra. After testing a prototype on a road pavement on the University campus, a ten-module pilot plant was implemented on a road in Covilhã, Portugal, for demonstration in an operational environment. In 1 d, the ten-module pilot plant was able to generate a maximum of 547 230·0 J, or 152·0 Wh, with an average energy generation of 145·0 J per vehicle passing over the system.
