Abstract
An innovative all-weather, deepwater quay in Peterhead harbour in Scotland has reinforced its position as the UK’s premier fishing port. Extensive modelling was carried out to optimise the layout of the quay and ensure no adverse wave effects would arise at other berths in the harbour. As described in this paper, this led to a novel structural arrangement in which the quay deck is suspended over a rock revetment. With no intermediate support piling within the revetment, the installation of the front row of piles and construction of the revetment could be carried out separately, resulting in substantial cost savings.
