Abstract
Synopsis This investigation provides some information concerning the applicability to the fatigue of concrete of the Palmgren-Miner partial damage hypothesis. The results do not contradict this hypothesis. The tests were performed on small concrete cylinders at high load-alternation frequencies. A Wöhler curve plotted for the concrete cylinders shows that fatigue in these occurs in the same way as in large specimens subjected to lower load-alternation frequencies. Fatigue of concrete due to non-alternating variable load pulses can be calculated from an expression relating to the Wöhler curve for concrete, combined with the Palmgren-Miner partial damage hypothesis.
