Abstract
Summary Experiments have been made to investigate whether, for concrete of a given workability, the relation hetween ultrasonic pulse velocity and compressive strength is independent of variations in age and in mix proportions (i.e. aggregate/cement and water/cement ratios). It is concluded that, for concrete made of the same type of material, curves relating pulse velocity to compressive strength may be drawn for concrete of the same workability but different mix proportions, provided that the tests are done at the same age. When tests are done at different ages the relation is dependent on both mix proportions and age. This dependence is, however, not so apparent at low compressive strengths.
