Abstract
Summary This paper discusses some of the models currently available for the prediction of the modulus of elasticity of concrete. A new model is proposed which gives a satisfactory prediction for a wide variety of aggregates and concrete mixes. The same model explains satisfactorily the isolated effect of the elastic modulus of the aggregate on the creep and creep recovery of concrete. In order to provide a critical test of this effect, experiments were carried out on concretes made with artificial aggregates having a large range of elastic moduli. Results of these experiments are presented. It is concluded that the elastic strain, creep and creep recovery of concrete increase as the elastic modulus of the aggregate decreases.
