Blast-induced vibrations in urban residential buildings

Abstract

The effects of the vibration waves induced by underground explosions on the reinforced concrete framed structure of a residential building and consequent damage caused to the building non-structural components, together with other effects on user comfort, are outlined in this paper. Some conclusions are drawn based on the theoretical and experimental results obtained for frequencies and amplitudes of the vibration modes of the structure. These results are, in their turn, analysed in the light of the recommendations of international codes.
