Abstract
The present paper reports the synthesis of magnesium-substituted nickel ferrite (NiFe(2−x)Mg x O4) (x = 0·15, 0·30, 0·45 and 0·60) using the autocombustion technique with particle size in the nanometer range. As-prepared samples were sintered at two different temperatures (600, 900°C). In the present investigation, it has been observed that with increase in sintering temperature, the estimated bulk densities of the materials increase. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples show the formation of single-phase materials, and the crystallite size and lattice parameter are estimated. From the Raman spectra, the Raman shift of magnesium-substituted nickel ferrite is comparable with the experimental values reported in literature. The Raman spectra exhibit five Raman active modes (A1g + Eg + 3T2g) which are expected in the spinel structure. The wide usefulness of spinel ferrites fascinated the researchers to study the properties of these materials to find the controllable parameters to synthesize materials for desired applications.
