Abstract
This study investigated drivers and critical success factors (CSFs) of innovations employed in the operating phase of transport infrastructure procured through build–operate–transfer (BOT) in Nigeria. The study was aimed at enhancing infrastructure revenue flow through customer-focused innovations using electronic toll collection and customer relationship management as case studies. The primary driver of innovation was establishment and execution of innovation as an integral component of the business development plan. The most significant CSF was an effective pre-implementation plan. Innovation design and execution requirements were effectively articulated. The study concludes that innovation in BOT projects must be continuous and cover all BOT phases.
