Abstract
The case of a 74-year-old male patient with an arteriovenous fistula of the renal vessels, considered to be congenital in origin is presented. Clinical symp toms included those of congestive heart failure but there was no hypertension. The possible pathogenetic mechanisms are discussed and a literature review is also performed, focusing attention on the fact that this is an exceptional cause of congestive heart failure in the elderly.
