Abstract
The author describes a simple and reliable procedure to place an intraluminal shunt during carotid surgery. In combination with the use of the double-balloon shunt, this procedure enables one to introduce the caudal portion of the shunt into the common carotid artery without any of the massive bleeding that occasionally interferes with shunt insertion.
