Abstract
The incidence of haematemesis secondary to oesophageal varices in schistosomiasis is more frequent than its incidence in Loennec's cirrhosis.1 In an endemic area an operation which could decompress the oesophageal varices, and also rid the patients of the hugely enlarged spleen and its complications, is desired.
