Probation, Crime and the Media

Abstract

Probation staff are well aware of limitations in the media's portrayal of crime and offenders, and the effect of this on the image and labelling of clients. The author argues that the Service should encourage the media to broaden its presentation and that public relations should be a vital part of probation work.
