Abstract
Though Gypsies and Newer Travellers are distinct in many ways, with very different attitudes and lifestyles, they experience common difficulties and discrimination, now heightened by the enforcement powers introduced by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. Anna Berry, a Trainee Probation Officer at the University of Sussex, summarises the legal changes and suggests how anti- discriminatory practice should develop in working with a less familiar minority group.
