Abstract
The concept of ‘top-down’ pronunciation teaching is revisited after 30 years, when my article ‘Teaching Pronunciation from the Top Down’ was published by RELC Journal. The notion of ‘top-down’ teaching of pronunciation is reviewed as presented in the original article and then reconsidered in the light of matters of identity, multilingualism, imitation and empathy, and contextualized teaching of pronunciation.
