Abstract
In the course of the last three years deep politi cal and economic changes took place in Poland, and the process of transformation from a state socialist system into a market- oriented economy really got under way. These changes have included social policy, although social policy has clearly been kept in the back ground while the focus has been on political and economic reforms.
