Abstract
Five short forms of the revised edition of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-R) were compared for use with an inpatient population. Included among the five are two new forms, one using subtests useful in personality assessment, the other using subtests useful in neuropsychological assessment. Guidelines are proposed for choosing short forms. These involve consideration of trade-offs among administration time, accuracy of estimation of WAIS-R Full Scale IQ, and the clinical value of obtaining scores on specific subtests.
