Abstract
Classes are constituted historical/v by their activity in relation to the means of production. Their cultures are formed in that context. Psychotherapy is a middle-class cultural form. When working-class clients seek psychotherapy, there is an encounter between two cultures in which the historically evolved relations between the classes, both cooperative and antagonistic, are enacted. Recognition of this is problematic for psychotherapy including group analysis.
