Abstract
In this article, the author considers different interpretations and views of the role and focus of the group analyst in countertransference. The term ‘scenic understanding’ is introduced, which enables analysts to discern and understand the situation as a reenactment in a therapeutic state and a clinical vignette demonstrates how this enhances the relationship between the analyst, the group members and the group as a whole, in search of the underlying truth.
