Abstract
These experiments indicate that the histologic features of carious enamel may alter after exposure to either saliva or calcifying solutions, even if only the surface of the tooth is exposed. Electron microscopy confirms an appreciable reduction in porosity of remineralized enamel but provides no evidence for the presence of amorphous precipitates. New, apparently crystalline forms are present at the peripheries of prisms, with which the reduction in porosity may be associated.
