Abstract
Lyophilyzed 19-day-old rat fetuses, implanted next to the periosteum, induced bone growth in mature rats. The initially immature bone matured after three weeks to the pseudo-haversian bone peculiar to the rat. The induced bone remained stable for 12 weeks. With the exception of one contaminated specimen, there was no foreign-body reaction.
