Abstract

Several salivary proteins exhibit genetic polymorphism, and this study examined the distributions of the proline-rich (Pr), parotid acidic (Pa), and double-band (Db) salivary protein phenotypes in caries-resistant and caries-susceptible adults, and in first-degree relatives of the caries-resistant patients. Although the familial nature of caries resistance was demonstrated, no differences in phenotype distributions were observed.
