Abstract
Many public planners work in rural jurisdictions or small towns, and these individuals are expected to initiate, formulate, implement, and evaluate community plans. The problems faced by rural-based planners are distinct from the issues faced by urban or metropolitan planning agencies and need considerable special attention and study. This article reviews the literature that has been recently published in the field of U.S. rural public administration as it relates to the planning functions in small towns and rural areas.
