Abstract
Two cases are reported in which saline emetics given for suspected drug overdosage resulted in pulmonary aspiration, hypernatraemia and a fatal encephalopathy. They illustrate the potential hazards of this procedure which should be used with caution in the home and hospital. The indiscriminate use of uncontrolled solutions should cease.
