Abstract

An analysis of 1,566 cases of doubtful paternity in which blood group investigations were carried out between January 1965 and December 31 1976 with some additional results obtained in 1977. An increase in the number of blood group systems used from 6 in 1965 to 15 in 1973 is associated with an increase in the number of exclusions of paternity obtained from 21 per cent to 31 per cent. However the percentage has fallen slightly in the last two years. The value of blood group evidence as a pointer to paternity in cases in which the putative father is not excluded is discussed.
