Abstract
Rural schools and the communities they serve are experiencing significant socioeconomic and demographic changes, resulting in an increasing diversity of needs. The author of this article identifies five principles and accompanying examples of strategies educators in rural schools can implement to strengthen their capacity for effectively teaching of all students within their community. Pedagogy of place and culturally responsive teaching are examples of inclusive teaching approaches that require collaboration with students, their families, and the broader community.
