Abstract
This article identifies unique problems associated with developing gifted programs in rural settings. In examining the issue of planning, the article discusses the importance of making effective use of limited time and personnel, sensitivity during the identification procedure, creativity in financing and transportation, and commitment to a program specifically designed to meet local needs. In regard to people management, the article suggests dealing sensitively with community feelings, involving a broad range of local residents, and screening written material for understandability.
