Abstract
The paper explores the relevance of psychology in a developing country, India, with the help of examples from cognitive assessment. A model of cognitive processes called PASS (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous and Successive Processing) is proposed. The model suggests that cognition can be understood as the result of the interdependent functioning of three neurological systems which influence each other. The paper con cludes that the distinction between pure and applied psychology is false and psychologists have an important role to play in developing societies.
