Abstract
This text of the Sinha Memorial Lecture highlights the contribution of late Professor Durganand Sinha in promoting psychology of Indian origin. Acknowledging the academic support he received from Prof. Sinha, the author has traced his own journey and struggle in building up Indian psychology. Indian contribution to modern psychology indeed goes much beyond yoga and meditation in dealing with problems of present global society. It is suggested that Indian Psychology offers a counterpoint on consciousness, self, mind-control and self-realisation to that of the Western psychology. The author envisages the possibility of developing an alternative psychology rooted in Indian heritage, tradition and knowledge.
