Clinical Trial of Cefazolin in Children with Bronchopneumonia

Abstract

Fifty one children aged between 1 month and 11 years 9 months suffering from bronchopneumonia were treated with Cefazolin, a new cephalosporin antibiotic. The Cefazolin was given by I. M. injection in two divided doses at 70-100 mg/kg/day. Forty six of the 51 patients showed cure or improvement, often with rapidity. Treatment was evaluated with the aid of post-treatment x-rays in all cases. The high rate of response in this study indicates that Cefazolin can be used effectively on a twice-daily dose schedule in the treatment of serious infections.
