Abstract
Thirty male patients with bronchospasm, all of whom were smokers, were admitted to a clinical trial and were randomly allocated to treatment with either tablets of aminophylline BP 100 mg three times daily or tablets of Phyllocontin 225 mg twice daily. Duration of treatment was 2 weeks. Phyllocontin tablets were well accepted by the majority of patients and were found to be more acceptable than the conventional aminophylline tablets when the choice arose. At the end of the trial the vast majority of the Phyllocontin treated patients did not wish to return to the therapy they were on prior to commencement of the study, in contradistinction to those taking aminophylline tablets. Side-effects did not prove to be a problem.
