Abstract
A SURVEY was carried out to determine students' knowledge, attitudes, and personal behaviour with respect to HIV infection; the aim was to obtain infor mation which would lead to an improved educational programme. A questionnaire was sent to every tenth full-time student on Exeter University's alphabetical list. It was found that the students were well- informed about Aids and HIV infection, but that this was not reflected in their behaviour. Ninety per cent accuracy or better was achieved in answer to most of the knowledge questions, whereas 47 per cent had made some positive change in their behaviour or awareness. The main thrust of the education effort will now have to be towards encouraging individuals to apply their knowledge to themselves, and to change their behaviour accordingly.
