Abstract
TWO programmes of education on breast self-exam ination ran from 1978 to 1985. Experience from the two centres, Huddersfield and Nottingham, suggests that an appointments system, supported by mass media advertising, is more effective than inviting women to attend educational meetings. The experi ence of the trials is considered relevant to com munity education programmes on other topics.
