Abstract
The human factors engineer will find that most of his interactions with the legal establishment will involve tort law. He may expect to serve in one of the following capacities: as an expert witness in giving professional opinions, as an expert witness giving testimony concerning testing he has performed, or as a consultant to manufacturers with regard to the legal liability incurred from their products. Each of these roles is discussed with respect to the technological and ethical difficulties that can arise.
